On the road with Ellen Stennard

Ellen-Stennard Drago-CrewHow long have you been a Drago crew member?
Since January 2010

What's your favourite destination and why?
Ngepi camp on the Caprivi Strip in Namibia. Passengers will experience (amongst other things) tree houses, the most creative toilets on the planet, a ‘hippo-proof’ swimming cage in the river, the chance to catch a tiger fish and an relax in an epic bar.

Best thing about being a Drago crew member?
Returning to amazing places during different times of the year and seeing how they change with the seasons.

What's the funniest thing that's happened to you on the road?
Being so excited to see wild dolphins swimming with our boat in Zanzibar that I jumped off after them without removing the weight belt I’d been wearing earlier while scuba diving. I saw the dolphins but pretty much sank like a rock!

What's the weirdest thing you've ever eaten?
Kumis - horse milk that’s been fermented in the body of a dead goat. Mildly alcoholic and fizzy!

Best Drago moment?
Paragliding over Pokhara, Nepal and making eye contact with eagles catching the same thermals we were riding.

What’s the one must-have item in your back-pack?
A bird identification book. I’ve tallied nearly 1000 species during my time with Dragoman.

What's the one piece of advice you would give someone wanting to join a trip?
Bring twice as much memory for your camera than you think you’ll need.

Where are you going next?
The Silk Road - Istanbul to Beijing
